Rebecca and Brad Mulcahy have put their three bedroom, two bathroom home at 18 Hemsworth Street, Acacia Ridge, up for auction on January 22.


It’s going to be a somewhat bittersweet goodbye for Brisbane couple Rebecca and Brad Mulcahy, as the three bedroom home they went from dating to parenthood in goes to market.

After living in the home for just over six years, the couple shared some major life milestones together here. “It’s our first home together,,” Mrs Mulcahy said.

“We were just boyfriend and girlfriend when we bought it. We’ve been married since and had our first child while living here.”

As the auction date nears, Rebecca took time to reflect on the memories of the home and emotions of selling.

“Your first home is always going to be sentimental,” she said.

“I’m a little bit nervous, I’ve never gone to auction before so this is the first time. I am sad as well, this is our first home and we’ve had our first child here, but you’ve just got to grow up sometimes don’t you.”

They are looking to purchase something elsewhere to accommodate their growing family.

“We have a toddler and we’re just trying to look for something and upsize.”

The auction for the home at 18 Hemsworth Street, Acacia Ridge has been set for January 22. In preparation, the couple renovated throughout the home to modernise it and add an extra touch of that homey feeling.

The couple put in a new shed with a barbecue area, new office and workspace.

“We have done a few renovations and have made it a home. So we’ve updated the kitchen and bathroom, painted the walls, added airconditioning, and a new carpet,” Mrs Mulcahy said.

Not only did they makeover the inside of the house, but also added a new shed to the spacious backyard, which has turned into a perfect work-from-home space with self-contained office and bathroom.

“My husband added the brand new double bay Titan shed in the backyard.”

Ray White agent Bevin Powell said the shed along with the home’s privacy were key characteristics that made it attractive to buyers.

“It’s very immaculately maintained, it has a tidy kitchen and bathroom and it’s lovely to be on the rear deck that overlooks a private back yard,” Mr Powell said.

Mrs Mulcahy’s favourite spot is the back deck.


“The yard itself is beautifully grassed and the house is great for entertainment, and tradies love it because of the side access on the house and the shed at the back.”

The home’s backyard, which features a paved outdoor area underneath, has proved to be something Rebecca looks forward to the most at the end of her days.

“I probably enjoy having meals on the back deck the most.” Mrs Mulcahy said.

Both Rebecca and Brad work just around the block, making it convenient for them in the past six years of living there.

Mrs Mulcahy enjoyed every aspect of the neighbourhood, and said the neighbours had been a standout feature.

The kitchen has been updated.


“Since being here we’ve made friends with everyone in the street, every year we have a street Christmas party,” Mrs Mulcahy said.

“The neighbourhood is great, everyone knows each other and if you need to borrow something you can always go over to your neighbour.

“Everyone watches out for each other and their houses too, there’s no crime.”

Only 15km from the CBD and being close to food and restaurants, schools and daycare,

Rebecca said that the home is ideal for a range of buyers.

“I think it would be perfect for young couples, maybe with one child, first home buyers, or even good for investors,” Mrs Mulcahy said.
