An employee at captioning company Ai-Media was responsible for the video of Seven News presenters Rebecca Maddern and Mike Amor being leaked.

Ai-Media confirmed it completed an investigation and identified that an employee working remotely due to the COVID-19 outbreak was responsible for the unauthorised distribution of the content.

It said “appropriate action” has been taken with regard to the employee responsible. It did not name the individual, or explain the motives behind the leak.

But the company confirmed in an email to Reuters, “The person is no longer employed by Ai-Media.”

Ai-Media CEO Tony Abrahams said: “We are Australia’s leading provider of captioning services and we understand the importance of our work in making media accessible and inclusive to a wider audience, while safeguarding the confidential information of our customers.

“We have longstanding and strong relationships within the media industry in Australia, and value our relationship with the Seven Network with whom we have been working with for over five years. This is the first such incident in Ai-Media’s 19-year history, and enhanced controls have since been implemented to ensure it cannot be repeated.”

Video of the presenters discussing Novak Djokovic has drawn attention around the world including in the Washington Post, NY Post and Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Ai-Media provides captions for Seven and Nine networks while RedBee Media services 10, Foxtel and SBS.
